2022 Contest Winner Announcement

Wrightly Reed, Race Director for Mathews Marathon event, announced today the winning selection for the event logo. Wrightly solicits entries from our local students – at Mathews High School – for the artwork.

Last year’s winner, Aiden Sowers, set the bar for the future. His design of a Great Blue Heron – complete with running shoes – was a fantastic trademark for the race and the area. This image appeared on the finisher medal for the Full & Half Marathon and on the custom hoodie sweatshirt that all race participants received.

Congratulations Jordan Hunley!

Thank you to all of the entries for the Mathews Marathon logo contest – it was a really difficult choice to make. These artists selected from local history for references – Captain Sally Tompkins – and our tourism logo “Be Here” as a backdrop. It was clear that a great deal of thought and talent went into the work. The winning design – created by Jordan Hunley – is a wonderful companion to the running blue heron from 2021: a running blue crab.

Jordan’s image will be featured on the event media, participant communication and racer giveaways. The Mathews Outdoor Club is grateful for the time & effort dedicated to this contest and are excited to see the image representing the area during this event.
