Our Mission
Founded in 2021, the Mathews Outdoor Club (501c3) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to powering outdoor activities and promoting sports tourism in Mathews County, Virginia.
About us
Getting outdoors should be simple and enjoyable. Ditto for physical fitness & health. Combine the two and you have the Mathews Outdoor Club mission.
How are we working to achieve that? By providing opportunities for area visitors and local residents to participate in outdoor activities in a large or small group or one-on-one. Our services range from competitive races to leisure tours – with two common themes: your pace and all outdoors.
We are a not for profit organization. Proceeds from our activities and events will be used to promote and support outdoor fitness activities. One lofty goal of the MOC: a network of trails throughout Mathews County for biking, running, strolling, etc.

Our Current Projects
4 Foot Roadside Shoulders
Let’s widen roadway shoulders where rumble strips are present
Mathews County needs wide, 4 foot shoulders along main roadways to ensure the safety of non-automobile traffic. Support the cause!!
Mathews Blueways Trails
In 2025, the Mathews Outdoor Club launched a project to upgrade the existing Mathews Blueways Trail locations.
The goals of this project are to address information kiosks, visitor usage and exposure.
Multiuse Trails in Mathews
A long term dream and ambition of the Mathews Outdoor Club is to spearhead public multiuse trails for the community.
We are exploring opportunities to implement this in the County’s long-term planning.
