The Gwynn’s Island Raw Bar Run – a one-of-a-kind race that combines aquaculture with community – features a 5k run along two waterways on Gwynn’s Island from Callis Wharf to Narrows Marina and back. The event features a laid back post-race celebration featuring a free raw oyster bar, complimentary beverage with ticket admission, live music, and the waterfront food truck, The Hatchery Eatery. The Mathews Outdoor Club is entering its fifth year as a 501(c)(3) organization, and we are thrilled with the direction we’re headed for Mathews. The MOC has a simple mission: to power outdoor activities and promote sports tourism in Mathews County, Virginia. That’s it.
But with intentionality often comes meaningful impact. Last year, our four events were estimated to generate more than $320,000 in revenue for the county. Funds raised through these events and sponsorships have jumpstarted efforts to relaunch the Mathews Blueways Trails, advance multiuse trail planning, and support important community programs such as Clean Community initiatives, the Parks and Recreation Commission, and other local sporting events.
