Wharf to Wharf Swim

Swimmer Categories – the one mile swim will start in waves at 10am, based on the following categories:

PUFFERFISH uses swim aids/ swim fins/ flotation device. You’re not a strong swimmer OR just want to relax in the water and will feel much more comfortable completing the one-mile distance if you use a swim aid, such as fins, a vest or even a floatie raft.

TUNA will not use swim aids. You know you can complete the one mile swim and will not be using any swim aid, including swim fins, just my swimsuit, cap & goggles.

Williams Wharf is the host venue for W2W – navigation address is 1039 Williams Wharf Road, Mathews, Virginia 23109. Swim course will cross the East River, follow the shoreline then cross back in a “triangle shape” one mile distance.

2026 AUG 15, Saturday at 10am – W2W will have a 10am wave start based on Swimmer Categories described above. Awards will be presented at 11am.

W2W is a collaboration between Mathews Outdoor Club (MOC) and the Mathews Family YMCA, who will provide post-swim breakfast – FREE for participants and a low $5 for family & friends.

W2W is a tribute to the late L. Wayne Hudgins & Mimi Ulsaker who were event fans & Williams Wharf enthusiasts.

Post Event Festivities – you & your spectators will enjoy music, drinks & food under the pavilion at Williams Wharf. The Mathews Family YMCA Advisory Committee will host the festivities.

Swim Swag – all W2W swimmers registered before 8/1 will receive a custom beach towel for participating (extras may be available for those signing up on or after 8/1).

Water Support – the US Coast Guard, USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 66, along with local paddlers, will be along the course throughout the race to provide water safety support.
