April Newsletter – Less than 30 Days until the Tour de Chesapeake!

The weekend of May 15th-17th, the roads of Mathews County, Virginia will be coming alive with cyclists exploring the beautiful backroads, waterfront, beaches and coastal scenery of the annual Tour de Chesapeake Cycling Event! 

Get ready for an unforgettable ride – choose from multiple flat, scenic routes (collectively over 100+ miles) all fully supported with SAG assistance so you can simply ride and enjoy. 

Other highlights of the weekend:

• Water Taxi and private deadrise tours
• the Art deTour and Mathews Farmers Market
• Yoga recovery and on-site massages
• Foot stompin’ live music and free Party at the Wharf on Saturday night

While you’re registering, be sure to ADD…

1.    A delicious waterside lunch from Mouth of the South

2.    A souvenir TDC T-shirt and/or JERSEY

3.    A visor, koozie, water bottle or car magnet with the TDC logo

Friday, May 15

4pm-8:30 pm – Registration & Checkin. ♫ Shane Norris will perform on Friday night during Registration at Thomas Hunter Middle School
Book ahead a boat or kayak tour
9am-3pm – P Buckley Moss Distribution center open
10am-7pm – Mathews Visitor Center * Local merchants on Main Street keep their doors open late for your convenience.
Dinner on your own

Saturday, May 16

7am-10am  – Registration/Check-in, TDC merch for sale until 3pm. 
6:30-8:30am – Coffee and pick-up breakfast items
8:00am-5pm – All Routes open
9am-1pm – Mathews Farmers Market 
9am-4pm – Water Taxi is available from Williams Wharf 
9am-4pm – 14th Annual Art DeTour
9am-4pm – P Buckley Moss Distribution center open
10:30am-3pm – Box Lunch by Mouth of the South (pre-registration ONLY and ♫ live music by William Earl Sadler.
4-5pm– Ride Recovery Yoga at THMS
5-9pm – Party at the Wharf! Dance band, 7th Street will bring the PARTY at Williams Wharf on Saturday night! The TDC sponsors all of this and it’s free and open to the public! Wine, beer and specialty cocktails available, plus food by Mouth of the South food truck.

Sunday, May 17

• Cyclists are welcome and encouraged to ride on Sunday!!  Signage will remain in place until 2:00 p.m.; SAG and rest stops not available.
• No scheduled events this day, but please enjoy all that our small town has to offer – restaurants, shopping, and local attractions! See more options for exploring the town here.

Party at the Wharf

Join us in an annual tradition after the race for the Party at the Wharf! Open to the public and riders! Hosted by the Tour de Chesapeake…which is why it’s FREE TO GET IN!
Live Music by 7th Street. Food truck, bar featuring beer, wine and signature cocktails. Bring a chair, your friends and your dancing feet! No outside food or drinks, no coolers please.
