The Mathews Micro Triathlon events, which are now approaching their 8th season at Williams Wharf in Mathews County, kicked off in 2015 with a small & determined group of participants. They’ve been increasing in popularity each year and in 2019 evolved into the current offering – a 4-event summer series.
2022 Dates: Jun 4, Jul 9, Jul 30, Aug 20

All experience levels welcome
The Mathews Micro Tri Series (MMTS) primary focus it to encourage all skill levels to participate by fostering a safe, friendly atmosphere. The 0.2 mile swim portion is in open water, following the shoreline and (depending on tides & swimmer height) the bottom is within reach. The 8 mile bike course has no hills and very little traffic; the same can be said for the 2 mile run route. All-in-all, an ideal event for a beginner OR an opportunity for experienced triathletes to go out full speed.
Unbeatable Course Record of 38:59.1??
Gunnar Eichler, pictured here, set a blistering course record during his first attempt at the Micro Tri in 2020, then beat that time when he competed in 2021. While Gunnar is training for his professional triathlete license this summer, he hopes to squeeze a Micro Tri into his 2022 schedule.
Max Registration is 50 per Event
Each MMTS series event will be capped at 50 participants. Any more than that would put a strain on our venue, Williams Wharf Landing, and we think would impact the comradery that makes these events so popular. We’ve kept the cost reasonable ($30 for Micro Tri & $50 for Sprint Distance) with optional add-on shirt purchase ($20) – registration for the 2022 is open and is starting to pick up!
