NEW in 2023. Introducing the Islander Regatta.
Mathews Outdoor Club (MOC) will launch a new event in 2023 – a non-competitive 9-mile paddle adventure around Gwynn’s Island in June. This accomplishment is not entirely new: a group of local friends have completed the circumnavigation each summer – the new part is that it has been organized into a supported event and extended beyond our small circle.

The iconic Islander Hotel.
At one time a center of activity on historic Gwynn’s Island in Mathews County, the Islander Resort & Hotel was devastated by Hurricane Isabel in 2003. Its owners are committed to restoring this landmark and reopening the doors one day; in the meantime, they have lent the name to our paddle event, which starts & finishes at the resort’s beach.
