The Mathews Outdoor Club events will be kicking off in a couple months with our first race of the season on April 30: Gwynn’s Island Race. We are excited for the 2022 season! As we plan for the year, we are taking the opportunity to review our current COVID-19 safety practices. Based on the pandemic situation as of this time:
MOC will provide pre-registration only for our 2022 events.
This means for the foreseeable future, there will not be same day signup for any MOC sponsored events. Participants will be able to sign up in advance – often as late as 4pm the day before – but not on event day. Packet pickup – where applicable – will continue to be self-service: swag bags will be labeled with names & can be picked up in advance of the event. This practice alleviates the need for volunteers at the signup & packet pickup table, and reduces the resulting “cluster” of participants around the check-in area.

Other COVID-19 safety measures.
The Mathews Outdoor Club monitors state guidelines with regard to the pandemic and that will continue throughout 2022. If needed, we can add wave starts to certain races and impose registration limits as appropriate. As of this date, the pre-registration limitation is the only measure carrying forward from 2021. We’ll share any further updates as needed – and you can always reach out to us with questions or concerns (christine@mocva.net).
